Easy “Side Hustle” S2E3
Side Hustle follows a stand-up comedian, Od, and a sex positive feminist writer, Sally. They are both hustling to make a living which trying to chase their dreams. Od drives Uber and Sally is a sex worker on the side to keep money flowing in while they live their dreams. They meet in an Uber ride where they bond over writing where Sally explains she writes essay about sexuality, contemporary feminism or criticizing contemporary feminism. She calls them pro slut manifestos disguised as personal essays.
I took away that it is not always as it seems. These are all normal people who are helping each other out in order to survive. They are all on the same page about their needs and wants. They are fighting the status quo, Sally by resisting contemporary feminism, her customers appreciating her, Od’s work in growing up in America and Nigeria while not fitting into either
This helped me understand sex work better. Sally describes her sex work as therapy to the people she is hired by. She is helping them not only sexually but emotionally while also making money to survive. While not all sex work is as beautiful as the scenes in Easy it shows a lighter side and proves it is not always a bad thing. This is consensual and something that should not be frowned upon.
