Below Her Mouth is a Canadian independent erotic romance film exploring the relationship between two characters Jasmine and Dallas. Jasmine is very successful fashion editor for a magazine and is living in Toronto with her fiancé who is out of town for work. Dallas is roofer who owns her own company. Jasmine and Dallas meet on a night out and start talking outside on the balcony. Dallas kisses Jasmine and Jasmine leaves to find her friend who she left after meeting Dallas. The next day Jasmine goes outside and sees Dallas working on the roof on the house across from her. Dallas convinces her to go out with her that night after Jasmine gets home from work. Dallas is trying to make a move on Jasmine and Jasmine is trying to resist her knowing she is engaged. However, one thing leads to another and they end up sleeping together and spending the next three days together. That is until her fiancé comes home unexpectedly and catches them in the act. The next day is tense and awkward as they try to talk it out. They try having sex, but Jasmine is too uncomfortable. They end up separating and it is implied that Dallas and Jasmine get together.
Below Her Mouth explores a woman coming to terms with her sexuality. Many women are stuck in the confines of our society that we must be straight and support our husband when in reality we can be who we want to be and love who we want to love. It is scary and hard but being truly happy is the best kind of life you can live. Jasmine is stuck in this relationship she thought she was happy in until she met someone who completely turned her life upside down. She made some big mistakes along the way, but she eventually found the true happened that she was missing. In the opening scene when her fiancé is packing you can tell she is not invested and seems bored. Once she is spending time with Dallas you can see her face light up in a way it was not with her fiancé. “I told some of my friends at work about you. What did you tell them? Everything.” (1:26:53) The look on Jasmines face when she was able to tell the people closest to her about someone special in her life was so bright. She looked so happy to be able to share that part of herself. Jasmine resisted social norms or being with a man. This stereotype is slowly changing even within the last ten years the lgbtq+ community has gained a huge amount of support. There will always be the haters of any group, but it has been a community that has truly blossomed over the last decade and it is beautiful to watch. So many men and women are opening up and becoming their true selves with the growing support.
